(214) 271-4585Spondylolisthesis is when a vertebrae in the spine slips out of place. Spondylolisthesis can cause pain in the back and pinch nerves that cause pain that radiates into your legs. It can be diagnosed on X-ray, MRI or CT scan of the spine. Your doctor may order x-rays of you bending forward and backward to determine the severity of the slippage in your spine. Mild to moderate spondylolisthesis can often be treated non-surgically with rest, anti-inflammatories, and exercises to stretch and strengthen the spine. Avoidance of exacerbating factors such as bending forward, twisting, and prolonged sitting may also be helpful in reducing the pain and inflammation caused by spondylolisthesis. More severe spondylolisthesis requires surgical treatment due to the instability in the spine and the risk of further nerve damage. Spondylolisthesis can be caused by aging, genetics or injuries. If you have been diagnosed with spondylolisthesis, it is important to monitor this finding closely because it can progress and worsen with time.
Most patients experiencing pain can be seen by Dr. Callewart or his physician assistant within 24 hours in Dallas, Forney and Rockwall, Texas.
